  1. I've been looking for information on the complete process of taking a movie that is shown on the big screen and putting it onto DVD. Can anybody direct me to some sites that have this information? What programs are used to create these "professional" DVDs...

well first you would have to get the movie scanned -- thats going to cost a BIG bundle ..

then color correct it - another slightly smaller bundle ..

    reformat and resize it ---

    encode it ..

    make menus and art work

then author it it in scenarist or dvd pro 2

    -

you could be looking at several hundreds of thousands of $$ plus hardware/software costs..

plus getting the rights to do this (plus a copy of the prints)

Pro DVD authoring often depends on proprieteary applications like Sony ViZARRo or Toshiba/Panasonic authoring
these systemes are not available to general public..
For the general crowd there are 3 pro choices
    Windows: DAIKIN (now SONIC) SCENERIST
Mac: DVD CREATOR or FUSION (also SONIC)

some say you can do pro titles on these platforms:
DVD Studio Pro (APPLES OWN buggy program)
    Reel DVD (Windows $1000)
Spruce Maestro (no longer made-and the basis for DVD Studio Pro))
