I was reading some suggestion on this forum about media and printer.

I'd like to know, very briefly your successful experience with:
    + A printable media
+ what printer (brand and model)
+ and price of replacement cartridges. If you use branded or generic ink replacements.

Also if you use something to avoid ink smearing.

    Thanks for ur input.

  2. Ritek printables, Have also use ICE and Princo's. All print pretty much the same, though the Riteks seem to take a bit longer to dry (much smoother surface).
    Epson 900
Have used both branded and generic ink cartridges with no problems. Cost well as i'm in the Uk i pay around £15 for 1 colour and 1 black.
No problems with smearing as yet but my disks dont get near water...
    Not bothered by small problems...

  3. Epson 300R($179 Best Buy) is the printer you want. Front loading CD/DVD tray, very simple to use. I haven't printed on any DVD's yet, but have printed over 50 cd's(Memorex inkjet printable) and they come out great. Make sure whatever media you get is inkjet printable, not thermal printable. My discs are dry as they come out. If it takes 60 min. for your discs to dry something is wrong. This printer rules!!!

  4. I use an Epson 900 with some cheap off brand ink I bought online. Very simple to print onto the 4X inkjet printable discs I have and I have never had any ink smear problems like others seem to have.

  5. I made the lexmark mod village idiot posted a guide for.

My disks seem dry as they come out, print quality is very good, prints fast enough not to slow, can get cheap inks (refills or generics) for it, and the printer costs only $35!

Lexmark now has a Z23 at wallmart for only $19 plus tax, just bought one of those and it looks exactly the same inside as the Z25 for $35!
I am building a second printer mod for my office out of the Z23 now.
Got side tracked with a bad system board, actually only takes an hour or two for the mod. Well worth trying for a $19 disk printer of this quality

I printed some silver topped Cds and they look real nice. Also a few ritek printables (white tops) and they also look nice.

No problem with smearing yet, though they only been used a few times so far.

Building a good caddy is important. The only problem I have had with using the modded printer was my crappy caddy I made. I used cardboard and card stock and it developed a small lump on the bottom which caused it to stick and not feed correctly at times. I have the plastic sheets ordered to build a much better caddy! My first one worked quite well for awhile though, I just don't want to make new caddies every 10 disks or so, so I am building a permanant plastic one. Actually several of them.

It was fun building it and works well
