Too big for what? DVD? VCD? SVCD? don't try and do the impossible like putting 2 hours onto a single CD VCD.

As Gazorgan asked, converting it to what? Are you trying to make VCD, SVCD or DVD. WIthout this info we can't help and tell you what you are doing wrong in TmpGenc.

The total file size of MPEG-1/MPEG-2 is dependant on bitrate used and the running time of your video. It has nothing to do with how big the video file is in the current AVI format (or whatever format it is in before converting it to MPEG-1/MPEG-2).

So a 50 minute video will always be "X" in size when you use "X" bitrate.

For instance if you are making a VCD the bitrate calls for 1150kbps VIDEO and 224kbps MP2 audio. So a 50 minute video will be approximately 493MB in size.

SVCD has a limit of 2520kbps for VIDEO and 224kbps MP2 audio so the same 50 minute video encoded at that rate would be approximately 983MB in size.

VCD has a fixed bitrate of 1150 Kbps and must be CBR. At this bitrate you can get almost 80 minutes of VCD onto an 80 min CD. If you want more you can either lower the bitrate (lower quality, may not play on some players), try VBR encodeing (again non standard, but set max 1150, min 200, avg, whatever you need for the length, still may not play on some players) or split to 2 or more disks (most standard of the options, means changing disks partway through the movie).

Obviously that's too big a file for a standard VCD. Did you scan for bad frames? (See below.) Did you extract the audio to wav and use that as the audio source for TMPGEnc? I suspect your audio is VBR-MP3, extract the audio from your source with Goldwave, just load the avi then save. Use the resulting wav as the audio input.
