  1. Hi,

I need to buy a video capture device that have this features :

    - Capture at 30 fps 640x480 or higher resolution
    - Video For Windows compatible
    - Do overlay (to be able to loop the video Input to the Output)
    - Win XP compatible

My software (it's a software for doing Video Assist in Film industry) support Pinnacle Miro DC 10+ and DC 30+ but this card are not suported on Win XP.

I need to find a video capture card that work in my software.

    Any advice?

If anyone want to test my software you can find it here :

    http://www.instashop.net/videoassitprosetup.zip

Video Assist consist of record what the 35mm Film camera see in the viewfinder and playback it for the director.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated !

For high end cards, Alex, check out Winnov.

    www.winnov.com

not in the same league as ATI and the other consumer players...

    Winnov is Pro stuff.

Low end card with Audio and video inputs (RCA or SVideo) $250.00 US

Medium card with BNC connections $600.00 US

High end card with BNC connections $900.00 US

Advantage is audio and video are both captured with the same board thus guaranteed synchronization.

I went to the winnov website and checked it out. Sounds to me this is more for capturing video for computer use since it can only do NTSC at 640x480 (not 720x480 nor 704x480 which are standard NTSC DVD resolutions). It says it can capture PAL at 704x576 as well as 768x576 (at least the specs seem to suggest this) but no DVD resolution for NTSC which seems odd.

Again this product seemed aimed at square pixel resolutions. Might be fine if you are going for DivX/Xvid but for MPEG-2 for DVD I doubt this is a good solution.

Well. I capture 720x480 @ 29.97 fps all the time with 0 frames dropped and total AV synch, on my P4c 2.6GHz 1GB RAM machine .

Then encode to DVD MPEG using either TMPGEnc or Edit Studio/MPEG XS.

The results I get seem clearer than the same source capped on my budies ATI ALL-IN-WONDERŽ 9600 PRO

I tend to like more and more all the external solutions like Datavideo DAC-100, Canopus ADVC-100 for DV, ADS Instant DVD 2, Pinnacle Moviemaker etc. (MPEG2) for the low price, excellent quality, portability, no need to open PC, firewire connectivity (or USB2). Can't beat ease of use, no drivers needed + ease of installation. Just look at the features of these boxes: http://store.yahoo.com/ambery/ looks pretty convincing and the price is just too good to be true. Definitely worth looking at.
