  1. Hello,

I need a new remote for a US DVD player!

I bought a universal remote and tried tuning it but it hasn't worked!

The DVD player is from the US, so do I need a universal remote from the US because I am in the UK???

Any help will be much appreciated, as I need to get a full size remote so I can access the hack menu!

The DVD player is Shinco DVD-168 case this matters!

Or can someone recommend a remote that will work or code to put in the remote? In the back of the user manual the codes are four digits long for the make, is this the same for US dvd players?

    Cheers

Try this site. They claim to have replacement remote controls for anything.

Sorry we do not have that model remote.

Do UK remote controls differ from US machines? Do they use different codes or frequencies????

Try doing a search on "remote controls". When i found this one i think there were some UK sites listed also. You also may want to try the manufacturer for a web site or phone number for replacement parts.

  5. Hi Mike,

I have the original remote for the DVD player, but I need to unlock it to play Region 2 DVD's!

I have found a hack code for Shinco DVD players but need a remote that has numbers on it! As the original doesn't have any!

So I bought a universal remote at the weekend but could get it to work my DVD player?!

So I am thinking maybe because its a DVD player for the US market, I need to get a universal remote from the US?

Is this correct or should any universal remote from any country work?

    Thanks

Where did you find the region hack for this unit? Are you sure the hack is for this exact model? How would you go to a chapter, etc. without numbered buttons? Are you certain you have the original remote for this particular unit? If you have the original remote, and it doesn't have number buttons on it, how did the person posting the hack enter it? Maybe you should ask on the Site or Forum where you found the hack, possibly someone will answer you.

AFAIK, the manufacturers are assigned codes so that they don't interfere with each others remotes (so when you press "off" for your Sony TV, your Sanyo VCR doesn't turn on, etc.).

Presumably, the manufacturer of Shinco has been assigned codes also, but I think they may be a manufacturer that has several brands under one flagship. You may have to do some Google reseach to find out if another brand matches Shinco.

I believe that the remote codes are the same worldwide for each manufacturer (though I can't say for sure) as we used to get Sony TV's in for repair that were from Europe, and the remotes that we had laying around (U.S. remotes) would operate them just fine. The question never came up, as there wasn't an issue with remote compatibility.

  7. Roundabout, there is a standard hack for all shinco DVD players all of which need you to type in 1,2,3!

The problem with this DVD the remote has not got any numbers on it, so you can't put in the code to get the menu!

I got a universal remote as this has got numbers, but I couldn't get it to work the dvd player! I thought it could be because I'm in the UK??

I think it's time to give up trying to get this region free!

    Cheers anyway!
