  1. Saw it at Fry's for $149 ... dual format +/-
    http://www.outpost.com/product/3795236

a bit of searching seems to indicate it's a BurnMax drive (BTC?), but no specs to be found anywhere online ... but it's supported by NTI ...

Has anyone tried one of those ?

It's not listed on this site's collection of Writer info, so not many members, if any, have it, I guess.

Know where I'd go to get the real dirt on "any model anything" I'd consider buying? The manufacturer's support pages. See how thorough support section is - to start. Read the FAQs. Might tip you off to problems/complaints.

And if they have a forum you can read all the rants from any unhappy customers - before you become one.
    There's no place like 127.0.0.1

Then simply going by that I'd stay away. If you can't find info now, what would you do if you had a simple question? Or worse, a major problem?

    my 2 cents

  6. My brother in law purchased this dvd for $130 at Fry's. It's pretty good actually. However, be prepared to buy Nero 6.0 because the Roxio that bundled with it aren't designed for DVD movie.

I think if the price of this drives dropped below $100 and you've owned Nero 6.0, I think it's a good buy for dual format DVD +/- R.

You may want to give a look at the AOPEN DVD+RW DRW4410 which is based on the Ricoh MP5240A which lets you do bitsetting. From Newegg.com for $100 delivered it has a 3 year warranty (according to the PCWorld review link from Newegg.com), retail packaged, bitsetting, 4x RW writing, good software. I just ordered one as my Nec 1100a died (fortunately under warranty). Check out the review links in the newegg ad for this drive.

  8. Can't resist, Zim and Gir ROCK I've been wondering about that Polaroid too. For a regular walk in and buy type place that's about the best price I've seen as long as the drive supports most media at full speed with decent quality.
