    Could anyone please tell me why this type of player won't recognize certain video files? Is it restricted to particular video formats or bitrates or something? Thanks.

    It should be able to recognize all region 1 dvd's.

    It may or may not be able to play raw mpeg/mpeg2 files, but it wasn't designed for raw file playback.
