OK -- here's the lowdown. I want to convert a DVD containing 3 seperate movies with separate VOB's to one SVCD. DVD2SVCD will only allow me to select one IFO file representing only one of the movies.
I believe what I need to do is create either 1 merged VOB file with a new appropriate IFO file, or re-generate a new IFO file encompassing the original VOB files for all 3 movies.
I have used DVDShrink to select the individual titles/movies and extract them to my HDD. I also have IFO Edit and VOBMerge. Unfortunatley, I am having no luck as IFO Edit says the merged VOB is not a valid VOB structure.
If I could get these 3 movies to look and act like 1 big movie with 1 IFO file, then I could use DVD2SVCD to rip it to CD.
Can someone recap the process for me? If using VOB Merge and IFO Edit is not the correct method, could anyone please elaborate and make a suggestion.
All I really want to do is take is akin to taking VTS_01_1.VOB (40 minutes)from one movie and VTS_02_1.VOB (40 minutes) from another and create 1 VOB (or series of VTS_01_X.VOB files) with a new IFO file that ties them all together and when I select the IFO in DVD2SVCD rather than it showing the 1st 40 minute movie it shows 1 80 minute movie consisting of both VOB's or 1 combined VOB.
Thanks !!!

simply create 3 seperate svcd all of 1/3 cd size each .. about 250mb. A complete svcd movie in 250mb is gonna look like shit tho!

The movies must not be very big if they will fit on one CD. especially if you want to make SVCD rather than VCD. Anyway when I have done similar things I have used :
Smartripper or DVD Shrink to rip the files,
DVD2AVI on each movie to rip the audio
TMPGENC to create the appropriate SVCD or VCD image to the size required
VCDEASY to put them all together onto one or more cd images
I use ChapterXtracto to grab the chapter information for each movie
This does not directly answer your question but does hopefully provide an alternative method for you
good luck -
I could send you a SVCD of me crapping... cuz that's what 3 movies on ONE SVCD will look like!

While 3 movies on 1 SVCD seems like a real stretch and result in "crappy" quality -- these movies are 140 minutes of low budget cartoon animations and should compress quite nicely and still look relatively good for my 4 year old on her TV. I am also using VBR w/ D2SRoba so it should produce a relatively small file. A test encode resulted in a 48 minute animation at 246MB MPEG file size using VBR SVCD. It actually looked pretty good. No worse than a high qulity VHS tape.
In the past, I have used DVDShrink to extract each movie's VOB file and have encoded them to MPEG with DVD2SVCD. I adjusted DVD2SVCD's CD size to end-up with the MPEG file size. I then took the resutling MPEG files and used Nero to put on a CD to burn as non-compliant SVCD. Unfortuntately these 3 movies are not anywhere near the same size, so merely dividing the CD size by 3 will mean that some files will be at a higher bitrate and higher qulity while others will be at a lower bitrate and quality with varying visual quality on the same SVCD.
I don't want to use CBR or CQ as I fear the files will be too large although
I guess I could use each movies percentage of the total DVD and apply the same ratio to the CD to determine the target file sizes for each move.
It would be really great if there was a way to manipulate VOB's from different movies so that the movies are combined and look/act as one prior to converting to AVI/MPEG. If anyone can speak to whether or how this could be done -- please do !!
Again -- thank you Rabid Dog and eKa for your advice, utilitiy recommendations, and information.
