I'm not sure what you mean. Are you saying hp makes them or why would anyone want an hp? My hp200i burner works very well.

One of the good things about the net is the development of search engines. Putting
    hp400i
into one of these (Google at www.google.com - the URL is case insensitive - is quite good) may yield the answer to your original question.

Failing that, if you run your cursor over the words in that thin column on the left you'll notice that the cursor changes to a hand - this means that if you click on it, it'll take you to linked information. Check out "DVD Burners" (another name for DVD writers) and yours just may be there.

    Hope that helps...

daamon Gee thanks for the help. Why reply with this type of response. I already did a search and have not found the info. I posted the question here because many people know more about the products then the company who puts them out.

The "hp" of the "hp400i" is likely to indicate that it's made by Hewlett Packard. Searching on Google should reveal more info... And not neccesarily from the manufacturer.

    Good luck...

Wel I did find out that it uses the new nec chipset. But my issue is that since I've come to this site I have learned that the name of the product might not be the name that made it. I dont want to pay for a name if the same drive can be purchasd cheaper with another tag on the front.

Sorry, can't help you on that one.

I've done a bit of trawling around and came to the conclusion that the Pioneer DVR106D seems to be a good buy (in terms of price, reliability, compatibility etc.). If you look this one up on the "DVD Writers" link to the left you'll see the same reviews that I read.

Refer to the thread https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=187580&highlight= - especially my post on 11 Nov, 2003 15:35 regarding the 106D and the 106RD.

I ordered mine (I'm in the UK) yesterday - it'll be my first DVD writer. Hope that's of some help.
