  1. Im trying to convert an xvid movie file to mpeg by making a wav file in virtual dub and using tmpge to convert the movie. But the mpeg file ended up being very staggery. Whats the best guide to converting xvid to mpeg?

No different from other AVIs. Just use the right codec. ffdshow and possibly the fourcc changer might help.

    That is the best way.

Can't help you without more details. Causes of your problem can be Field Order, poor quality in the source, bad bitrate (too high or too low).

You will have major problems if you have a PAL Xvid and try to go NTSC. Same problem if you don't do the 23.97/29.97 or 29.97/23.97 conversion correctly either.

try just loading the file straight into tmpge and not seperating the audio,
as long as it's not ac3 audio, if so use gold wave, and tryagain
