I am having trouble converting an xvid avi file to mpeg-2 so that I can write to a DVD using Sony Vegas. I am using MediaCoder but the quality of the video is terrible and the audio is not synchronized with the audio. I am somewhat nesw to video converting. Should I be using certain settings to do the conversion? What are the ideal settings for converting?

    MediaCoder gives me options:

Mode: bitrate based, quaility based, two pass, or three pass

    Kbps

    Frame Rate

    Any help is greatly appreciated

Why don't you just use Sony Vegas to convert it to mpeg2?

I guess you have problem importing the xvid in vegas? Be sure to install the xvid codec.

And if you don't need any editing just use an all-in-one free dvd converter like dvdflick, avstodvd, etc.

And if you need some simple editing, try AviDemux before importing in DVDflick or AVStoDVD..

Sometimes the streams get lost in codec translation, when the audio is at fault I recode the audio using virtualdub and if the video is having issues I use fourcc to set the video codec as "divx" and that usually solves it.
