Hey there. I've just purchased a Canon ZR70 - my first mini DV - and it came with Pinnacle Studio 8 SE (had to mail in a coupon and am waiting for it). I find no reference to this version on the Pinnacle site. My question is as follow (I'm brand new at this, so I'm a little confused as to what I need): If I upgrade to Pinnacle Studio 8 - I assume SE is a light version - will I have all I need to capture, edit and burn to DVD? If not, can anyone suggest a product (s) that can do all these things?

    SE stands for Standard Edition.

    Info on this site:
    http://www.pinnaclesys.com/ProductPage_n.asp?Product_ID=577&Langue_ID=7

I suggest you get hold of your package, play a little bit with it to identify where it does not fit your needs adequately and come back to check on the left if there is another product that would work better for you.

Nothing like testing and trying to understand what does not work for you. SO far, there is no such thing as the best product as best is different for everybody. For me, best is Adobe Premiere....

    Good luck.

Hey, thanks! So, is the SE different than Pinnacle Studio 8?

One more question - I have a bunch of free stuff that came with different hardware - Sonic My DVD, Ulead Movie Factory 2, etc. I played around and editied a movie in Windows Movie Maker so neither of the programs would let me import and burn to DVD with the format I chose. There a a bunch of capture choices in the Windows program. Will any play nice with burning in these programs?

Try a DVD format... I hear MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 works well.

    Please consider reading some guides.

You say you have Ulead Movie Factory 2, try reading a few guides dealing with that program in the "How To" section. It is very easy to use and should let you 1.Transfer from camera to hard drive 2.edit 3.burn to dvd.

GOOD LUCK, if you have any problems, let us know!

Nothing is wrong with it, Lordsmurf probably suggest it because it would be eaiser for you to work with and you eliminate the process of having to convert the avi file to MPEG 1 or 2.

I see. And to burn to DVD it needs to be mpeg 2 or 1?

To burn to DVD, you need to convert your avi file to a MPEG-2, unless you captured straight to MPEG-2, and then author it using a program such as Ulead DVD Movie Factory 2 and then you can burn the Video_TS folder that Ulead creates to DVD.

In a nutshell, to go from your camcorder to a DVD, you need:
    - to capture your DV file onto your HD https://www.videohelp.com/capture#48,
    - edit the captured file with your favorite editing software Studio 8 in your Case (forget the SE, you have Studio 8 )
    - convert the edited file to a DVD compliant format. If you want DVD quality, you need to convert to mpeg2 https://www.videohelp.com/convert#10
    - eventually, you need to create a menu for your DVD with you favorite autoring software https://www.videohelp.com/author#6
    - and then burn the authored file, with your favorite burning software.
    such as Nero.

Some Software include all process in 1 at the cost, most of the time, flexibility. But this is probably enough for most people. This include Movie Factory.

As suggested, nothing like practicing and reading a few guides on this great site.
