  1. I just converted a 2 hour VHS to DVD via my Magnavox ZV427MG9A DVD Recorder & VHS Recorder. Now I would like to put the DVD into my PC, edit it and then create a new DVD with my PC’s DVDRW. What software do I need for the editing?

Tmpgenc DVD Author, Videoredo Tvsuite or Mpeg Video Wizard DVD.

Or are you looking for free solutions? Then you could use vob2mpg and try edit with Windows Movie Maker or Pinnacle VideoSpin.

is great if all you want to do is edit out commercials as it does not re-encode and if you do not want fancy menus, or spend the extra $35 and get the author works.

I've seen this before, you say your PC can't play the disk (I'm assusming you software player has issue with the disk) but can it read it.
If so copy the main vob files to your hard drive. U can try DVDshrink as it has a movie only option. If it fails try imgburn or isopuzzle to create an image of the disk. Once the vobs are on your hard drive use vobmerg to combine the main movie into a single vob. Then you can cut and edit the video in something like Cuttermaran or mpegschnitt Save your edited video then author Simple DVD Creator (if the resulting file is not compliant use DVD Flick instead).
