My son's mother has a HP computer with no recovery disc or copy of Windos XP and it refuses to boot up. It just comes up with a bunch of errors and asks if you want to restore to the lates known working point. When you say yes it just gives more errors. I'm not sure but I think they sometimes put a recovery on a partition (D dirve) I believe. Has anyone any knowledge of this or what to do. I would have built her a computer but she wanted the interest free 1 year option so she went with this HP. Any help anyone can give me will be deeply appreciated and if I get it working I'll drink some beers for you!!!!

  2. There is really not enough information there to take any guess of why its happening. What was the last thing that happened before it started acting up. For example was a new programmed installed? Maybe a piece of hardware? Was the computer impropperly shut down?

Also, have you tried booting into safe mode? I think to do this you press F8 during a specific point in the boot process (just keep hitting it).

Another thing is if its an HP, it may have a warentee and you can just send it in for repair. Or the very least ask HP for a restore disk.

I asked her son if he had put any new hardware in and he said no. Who knows what kind of programs he loaded but I can't get it to boot up so I can't find out. I tried safe mode already and no luck. I might just try booting up wiht a boot up disc and see if there is a set up file on the d drive. I sure hate not having any discs for it.
