I've found this little application - HandBrake. And I've been testing it with several DVDs I have. It's still in a early stage of development and lacks many options. But it's simple, fast and does the job flawlessly. I just thought I should let everyone be awared of this awsome app. Sorry if this has already been covered.

does it only do DVD to AVI/MPEG-4?
or can it also do mpeg1/2? -
i think at this moment it only supports avi/mpeg-4 and XviD format
one thing i really like about this app is its speed. on my ibook g3 700mhz with 640mb memory, it takes less than 6 hours for dvd -> 700mb avi. so, with faster g4 or g5, it would be alot faster, i would think. -
one would hope
forty two divx conversion for me is less than 1 hour
