  1. I have created about a 1 1/2 hour video with still images, digital video, music, titles etc. I am using Adobe Premiere 6.5. The problem I am having is with the still images. I can see them in the monitor window and on the output tv I have hooked to the breakout box until I save Premiere and go back in. Then when I click on the timeline where the pictures are, all I get is a black screen in the monitor window and the output tv. The video, titles, music and everything else is fine, except for the still images. What is weird, is some of the images still show up but most of them don't. I have to delete them and using Paint shop pro, which is what I use, I resize them, even the same size 720x540 and reimport them, then they show up again. I save the project, close premiere and when I open it back up, the still images don't show up any more. I have tried everything I can think of, and am totally confused at this point. I have no problem capturing the video or anything else, just with the still images. I am using a Matrox RT.X10 capture card, which seems to do a very good job. I would appreciate any help anyone has to offer. Thanks!!

make sure there are no spaces in the name of the directory they are in and use short form directory names - and only 1 or 2 dir. deep ...

I had the best luck with Premiere 6.5 when I followed the DOS 8.3 naming convention for all files/Projects. I know it sounds silly, but remember it's an Apple port. It can be tempremental about the littlest things.

Also, dont' forget a lot of things aren't actually viewable until you render the whole thing (like transistions, not sure about stills, I will check one of my still projects tonight).

I also have a Matrox RTX-10 card and experienced the same problem some time ago--black screen for still images. The problem was using JPG files. In the Matrox documentation, they indicated that there was a problem and recommended using other still image formats such as psd (Photoshop). Since I had Photoshop, I converted all my JPGs to PSDs and the problem was solved. Fortunately, I didn't have too many JPG files for that project. Don't recall if Tiffs were OK--only that there was a problem with JPGs.

Since that time, there has been a major upgrade to the RTX-10 software and I believe that problem has been solved. Recently, I created a slideshow set to music with over 300 jpg images with no problem.

Make sure that you have the latest software version (a very large download file as I recall). Hope this helps.

    Tiffs are fine..
better than PSD only because PSD have unusable layers that just waste filesize when imported to premiere
keep filenames short and.... try this....
PREMIERE users..make a FOLDER and put all the assets you can predict you need in this location, this way, premiere will not get as confused when it make these pointers to you files for preview or render.....

I'ts like ensuring reliability this way...sort'a your own OMF folder (IN AVID SPEAK)

It seems that Premiere uses Quicktime to show JPEG stills. Recently, I accidentally messed up my quicktime installation and still JPEGS in the project and timeline appeared plain black. After re-installing qtime, all was ok.
