  1. I have:

    Videologic Zxr550 5.1 Speakers

Ronin DVD Player Slim Line 5.1 Digital Audio Advanced Progressive Scan with 3:2 Pulldown.
    Karaoke Feature

Never had any problems before setting up speakers but I seem to be suffering here. I've got my speakers system plugged directly into the back of my DVD player. I am trying to play a 5.1 DVD. I get all the sound effects (music, effects etc) but I do not get any speech. The speech should be coming from the centre speaker but I get nothing. I can hear the speech muffled within the subwoofer. (very low and unclear).

The centre speaker definitely works when switched around - so it's not a problem there.

I think I must be missing an option of my DVD player or something? All sound effcts out of rear/front left/rights - but no speech out of centre! Ah! It's annoying.

Can anyone recommend why this is the case?

    Thanks for the help.

  2. There are quite a few players out there with faulty or sub par
analog outputs. The fault often lies in the in built amplifier rather
than the Dolby decoder itself and cannot be easily repaired.
In decoding, six mono audio streams are amplified with the center
and sub streams "lying" side by side. Thus if the circuitry is faulty, it is
much more likely that both center and sub are affected.

The two most common symptoms are either a muted sub or
the "switched effect" where the center and sub signals are
swapped. It could be that you are experiencing both.

If the above is the case, the good news is that the in built
digital passthrough will most likely be fine so you can hear
superior 5.1 audio after installing an a/v reciever.

i think for your 5.1 sound, you need to use the optical digital output, which needs to be plugged into a 5.1 amp

    Hi there,

I have had the same problem with my sound system. To solve it I had to cut the cable off the plug and solder it on reversed.
I admit it's a bit tricky, but after doing that it is working fine now.
