  1. Hi, I want to convert a Divx too mpg using Tmpenc it is 91.58 min & I want to fit it on a 80 min disc If I change the bitrate down to 950 Tmpenc says it will fit. this seems too easy! will this work. Not sure what info you need to help me so I'll put everthing 640*272 24fps Divxmpeg4 v3 Size 716.110kb length 91.58 codec Div3. This is all mumbo jumbo to me but I hope it means somthing to you. Thanks

Yup, that's all there is to it. I hope you're creating a VCD b/c SVCD would be lousy at that bitrate. If you want to shoot for better quality, then try 2-pass VBR encoding instead of CBR. Minimum bitrate of 250, maximum 1150 and 950 average would create the same size file (1 disk) but would give a higher bitrate where it's needed. It can take twice as long to encode, however.

Buy the time you reencode that divx crap into mpeg1 for xVCD it will look extremely pixilated at a bitrate of 950. Yes it will work but are the results worth it?

The video you have is highly compressed. Just watch it and be happy it was free. Go buy / rent the movie and do it properly.

    Holistic,

Gasp!!! Rent[/i]? Watch out, someone's gonna get you.

Actually, if the content IS any good, why not split to 2 CDs? Not a biggie to change disks at 45 minutes. Go potty, get a beer, a snack, whatever.

There IS such a thing as too much compression.

    Cheers,

Well, VCD isn't very good quality. If you do SVCD on two disks and you use 2-pass VBR the quality will be much better, more like your source. You'll have to see for yourself what is acceptable esp. with regards to bitrate settings, although that can vary depending on the amount of action in the movie.
