ASF tools usually fails if it has DRM set. Other than that I've not had one fail. Really old M$ codecs (WMV7 and earlier) can be read in VDUB 1.3c, but nothing modern.

Windows Media Encoder 9 will let you transcode it to AVI (but still have WME 8/9 codecs). You can't un-install this, and it fubars a lot of DivX and other codecs for life.

it should be there, it's in their own program folder. I installed, but the only option is to convert it to wmv not avi.

The problem you are having is maybe that those files were encoded using wmv2 or something like that, so yuo can watch them, but you can't re-encode them

  5. i found the program in my C drive under program files, i converted it to wmv and it hasnt helped with it being recognisable with other programs but it reduced the size from 8mb to 3mb. Although virtual dub says that it is asf still?

  6. ok, i got one step further, i was able to open the new wmv in asf tools and convert it to avi, however when itry to watch the movie i have no picture, just audio.

so i would have though that i was missing a codec but how could i convert to that format in the first place? if it helps, G SPOT detects the video codec as wmv3

    thanks

That's an old codec, astools won't convert it directly, you can try reencoding it. I tried that and I didn't work

  10. If you edit it to wmv with WME or WMM you can then load it into tmpgenc and then convert to mpeg.

  14. So you converted the asf and you now have wmv, load to tmpgenc and you get that message?

Why did you de-multiplex it? It's not an MPEG2 stream.....you should get an error.

WHATS DRM? AND HOW DO YOU GET RID OF IT? I GET AN ACCESS VIOLATION WHEN I CONVERT ASF TO AVI BUT THE AVI FILE SEEMS TO PLAY JUST FINE. NOT SURE WHATS GOING ON WITH IT YET.
