  1. I get this message in DVDShrink 2.3 and 3. I have a liteon ldw-411s

DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue this operation.

    CDvdCSS::Read Failed!

The reason is: Copy Pertection Error - The read failed because the sector is encrypted.

Thats it... Does this with all my DVDs.
Does DVD Shrink Not read straight from the DVD but from the rip on your HDD or am I doing something wrong?

???DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue this operation. ??

That has happend to me, it was caused by a "Scatched" DVD in all cases.

I found that using my LiteON 163d was not as good at ripping the DVD's as
the LG 4040B was, as it usually ripped the DVD in full where the 163d failed,
and appeared not to be as affected by scratches as the LiteON was.

    See "Toms Hardware" DVD reviews.

  6. Playing the DVD in power DVD XP v4.0 worked!
Do i have to do this because the 411s cant do copy protected DVDs? Do all DVD burners have to play the movie first?
    Can i fix this?

The only theory I can think of, is that your computer cannot "crack" the speed the DVD should be played at to rip it. However, if you play it, the disk sets the speed for the ripping program, whether the movie knows it or not. Just my opinion.

  10. Call me crazy but....
I think some people might has this problem in a new DVD burner cause they didnt set the region
Before power DVD would play it made me select the region. Now i can open the DVDs without playing them first.

That's exactly the reason. Until the region is set on the drive it ain't gonna rip. If blah blah blah doesn't read try using a ripper and try to narrow down the cause of the error.

But Mr. Bass, he did rip it without setting the region. He just played the movie while he ripped.
