  1. Hi All,

I have just started using DVD Shrink which, I am very impressed with so far. However, I have just backed-up a region one title and tried to play it on the PS2 but it will only play balck & white. I am used to using DVDDecrypter with IC7 and all the back-ups play fine on the PS2. Does DVD Shrink actually rip out the region/css/macrovision encoding the same as DVDDecrypter? Or should I be using DVDDecrypter first and then DVD Shrink?

    Many Thanks

I don't know if you have to, but I always rip with Decrypter first and then shrink. Then burn with IC7 or Nero. Haven't had any problems.

  3. musotechy, I don't think the region or copy-protection is the issue here (DVD Shrink v3.0 does remove CSS, RCE, Macrovision, and makes the backup all-regions by the way).
It's more likely that your PS2 and/or TV is not multi-standard PAL/NTSC (the disc probably being NTSC).

Im assuming you usually back up region 2 (PAL) titles. As region 1 is NTSC you have to make sure your equipment (TV and PS2) support playback of NTSC titles.

here in the UK, we use PAL and my tv does not support NTSC therefore the playback of NTSC DVD is in black and white. My other TV (we have two) supports NTSC (as well as PAL) and plays my NTSC backed-up DVDs without a problem.

I have backed up many titles using DVD Shirk and have not had a problem with playback so far either with PAL or NTSC.

  5. Thanks for the info, however, I have tried both region one and region two discs, some with PAL and some with NTSC and it has the same effect. As mentioned before, it varies from disc to disc, some work some don't.

  7. Thank you all for your help but have to bow my head in shame

My main TV plays PAL or NTSC automatically, however, the TV upstairs has to be switched manually (knew there was a reason for the thick manual that came with it). So, I now can play DVD's on the PS2 in full colour.

Thank you all for your time.

Glad to hear the problem has been fixed.
