  1. I've tried to backup DVDs with DVD Shrink 3.0 Beta 5. It works well for some DVDs, mostly music DVDs, but it won't work for 99% of the movie DVDs.
When I start and click "Open disk", then select the DVD drive and click start, I get this error :

"DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
    The error is :

    Failed to read from file.

The reason is : (this part is in German in my version) copy protection error. Failed to read from file because sector is crypted"

I'm not a pro in backing up DVDs yet, so don't yell at me if this is a common problem or stupid question. I was browsing through the guides and the articles on the left, but couldn't find an answer.

    Can anyone help me ?

Did you try DVD Decrypter to rip to your hard drive first?

This Guide recommends that as well as a link to download. :c) https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/141024.php#dvd9dvdshrink

(just an earlier version of DVDshrink)

    Greetings,

For what it worths, I have many foreigner friends (North American Canadian here) that have problems copying DVDs from EU or India. There are many issues with languages, file read error, etc.

Personally, I had a couple of issues with DVDs from France and Great Britain and never with U.S. or Canadian based DVDs. (And it was never due to the region code).

    Thank you
