I recently captured some of a football game that I Tivo'd using the Canopus ADVC 100. I used the composite video out and rca for audio into the Canopus and then firewire into the computer. I captured in DV using ARCSOFT SHOWBIZ which is what I use to capture HI 8 from my camcorder.
I reviewed some of the captured avi's in Windows Media Player and found the resulting quality horrible. My question is this: Am I seeing a true representation of the quality of the avi, or is it that the avi is interlaced and the computer monitor isn't showing a true representation of the quality. My ultimate goal is to convert to compliant mpeg2 dvd for authoring and burning on a dvd, my concern is that if the avi quality is poor, there is no use converting again and losing more quality.
BTW, I don't think dropped frames are an issue in the capture because I ave a pretty meaty system, however, Showbiz doesn't give that info anyway. Any help would be appreciated.

Can anyonyone help or offer suggestions, I'd hate to have to author a small clip and waste a disc just to check the quality.
Any input appreciated.
