XVID codec dosn´t work

I have Divxplayer 2.1 and have downloaded the divx codec 5.0.5 and xvid codec but when im going to watch on a file that is xvid compressed nothing works. The only thing that happens is:

the file contains the following type of data:
Video data:FOURCC code "XVID"

The strange thing is that Gspot says that i have all the codecs so i can watch the file but no!

What is wrong?

Did you read through the link I posted? Just follow that advice about no codec packs and the last post explains the FourCC problem.

If you need further info before someone else steps in, do a search right on this page.

Xvid codec - xvid.org

The above will be bundled with a fourcc changer. Load it select your avi change to divx. Voila

What do you mean by it doesn't work ?, do you still get the same error ?, and gspot reports that you have all codecs.

I would then uninstall all codecs especially things like nimo and then install only the ones that gspot reports.

ok i have now unistalled all video codecs and I am trying one file here:

It says:
Codec:
4CC: XVID/DIVX Name: XVID


So am I know going too only install XVID??

I do not think this will affect it. Mine is located in progam files - xvid

Why are you trying to play an xVid with a DivX player?

The DivX player will play... (wait for it)... DivX.

xVid is not DivX. They're similar, but they're not the same.

Once you've installed the xVid codec, you should be able to watch your xVid video with something like Windows Media Player (WMP), or Media Player Classic.

There's nothing all that special about the DivX player anyway, as far as I'm aware.

Divx Player plays Xvid fine if the Fourcc code is 'DX50'

Now another problem occured when i tryed to install some codecs.

now it can´t write to c:\windows\system32\DivXdec.ax and
c:\windows\system32\L3CODECP.acm

what is that all about?

Your topic is called XVID Codec doesn't work, and you've been complaining about not being able to play an xVid file on your POS computer.

So, are you now saying that you cannot play DivX files on the DivX player?

Is the xVid you were originally having a problem with now playing on WMP or whatever?

Keep using gSpot - if a file uses the older DivX codecs (e.g. Div3), you may need to intall the old codec as well as the new one (5.1 or whatever it is now).

What problem exactly are you having now?

If you get those problems on installing the codecs, try restarting your PC - make sure that nothing is running (no programs open), including don't have an explorer window open with your video files displayed.

Then use Add/Remove programs to remove all the codecs you've installed - the DivX and xVid ones. Do this one at a time, restarting the PC between removing each codec.

Then install them one-by-one, restarting between each install.

I'd suggest using gSpot, and only installing the codecs you really need.

If you must install them all in one go, I'd do Div3, then DivX5, then xVid.

If you just get frustrated and try installing things on top of one another, you'll make a mess of the codecs, and you'll have problems.

Basically my problem is that i cannot play any files on Divxplayer

But Gspot says that i have all the codecs needed but still Divxplayer refuses to acknowledge it. That is my problem.

I can play the files in Windows Media Player and Realplayer but i want it to work on Divx Player aswell

Did you try reinstalling the DivXplayer?
