Perhaps someone has one made there and could comment it's performance etc?

Where is yours made and how it performs? You can find this info on the sticker on top of the drive

I have a Chinese made Toshiba, SD2700. It's a basic DVD player about 2-1/2 years old. I got it for its ability to play VCDs. This thing plays anything it's supposed to play, DVDs, CDs, CD-R, CD-RW, and VCD. It works better than my brother's more expensive Toshiba.

Everything is made in China now!
