Look to your left, at the green section: How To

It has a good selection of Guides for DivX to MPEG.

    Always good advice. :c)

Also, do searches for "Xvid To Mpeg" "Xvid to DVD" right here top-right corner. Loads of results, lots of reading.

Xvids are notorious for causing all kinds of issues and problems. You may be able to head off some by reading what others have already discovered.

I find that kind of comment curious, as I've never had a problem with either DivX, or XviD. I can only guess it's more often related to those codec packs, than the XviD codec itself. Just ensure you have the proper codecs installed, and install only those codecs you need. If you do use a codec pack download, resist the urge to install every option in the codec pack, as it will only cause you grief later on.

You can use GSpot from the TOOLS section to verify if you have the necessary codecs installed.

Yes, that's more what I meant. There seems to be a lot of problematic Xvids out there for download. Improper encodings, bad frames, etc. That's judging by the glut of recent posts I've come across.

The issues and problems I'm referring to are in people's attempts to work with and correct someone else's mistakes and make a bad file good. Which often leads to a mad dash to install any and all codecs, including packs, which, in turn, often leads to more widespread problems affecting a variety of programs. Again, based on threads where the original problem worsens with each attempt to make something useable out of a download.

I couldn't agree with you more. What's worse, is that the more you install, the harder it is to tell what came with the OS, and what is safe to remove.

I install a very basic set, and download directly from the codec's web site. 3 versions of DivX, one of XviD, MPEG-2, OGG, and of course, Huffman.

:c) That last line should be on a sign somewhere. :c)

It's almost painful watching people unwittingly digging themselves into an even bigger hole.

It's why I routinely point them to those long threads. Not as a punishment :c) Or as some might assume, an easy way out for me. Just to have a good read and learn from others' mistakes without having to start their own.

It'd be easy to say "download this" or "try this", but, from experience, they then need to come back with new "issues" to deal with.
