I'm trying to extract "Friends"-episodes from two-sided DVD's.
I can use DVDx for this, but then i have to capture them as VCD 1 or 2.
I then would have to re-encode them to match the DVD criteria.
I tried the DivX option but when i re-encode them with TMPGEnc the sound gets a metallic noise that i don't like.
The discs are two-sided because they are encoded in the 8 Mb DVD standard. For Friends 3 Mb should be more than enough. That way both sides should fit on one disc. Does anyone know a program that can extract DVD compliant Mpeg's with subtitling from VOB files? Preferably in a user definable bitrate so i don't have to re-encode?

There is a freeware tool called vobedit which would allow you to extract as is the mpeg2 and subtitle streams mutiplexed in the VOB files. You do not have to reencode the mpeg2 streams since these are the original streams which make the vobs.
There are guides for vobedit but I think the program is straightforward to use, just experiment a little. You can also extract audio and subtitle streams. Search the net or get the latest version of these tools at
www.ifoedit.com

Once done, if you decide to split the disc later or add "continue on disc 2", this site may have the tools you need

I can't remember as it's ages since I did it but I think you may be able to rip the video/audio/subs into 3 files using DVDDecrypter in IFO mode
I don't know if this helps
