  1. Hello. I made an image of a DVD on harddisk. Then I wanted to copy that image to a DVD-R. The process was aborted with an error message and the DVD-R became unusable. The message says "Data transfer from source is slower than the DVD drive speed". My hard disk is quite recent, a maxtor with ultra DMA 5, 720 rpm. Has anyome else had a similar problem? How should I proceed?

Is DMA enabled on your hard drive? Also, is your hard drive on a separate IDE channel from your DVDRW drive? Or other DVD/CD drives? If not, this alone will kill your hard drive speed. Have you recently defragmented your hard drive? Also, you may want to close down any unneccessary programs when burning. What programs are running?

  3. My hard disk is in UDMA 5 mode and it is the master on 1st IDE channel. The DVD writer is the master on the second IDE channel. When I start working with the DVD I shut down all applications including the ones that sit idly in the memory such as the Anti-virus and firewall programs. I have also recently deframented the partition from which the data comes. It looks as though I have done everything that comes to mind. Still the problem is there.

Those are good habits to practice. :c) One other that might be good for you is to write to RW disc first - especially when working out problems.

You don't say which program you are using that returns that error message.

Well I'm stumped. This has exhausted my limited expertise. Knock on wood, I've been able to write successfuly write 150+ DVDs with my DRU-500a. I use Nero and RecordNow. In checking out your computer profile I see your computer is a powerhouse especially compared to my 733-MHz PIII. Either something is wrong with your hardware or software configuration or we're missing something obvious. Sorry I couldn't help. Good luck.

  6. What firmware, what media? Probably a media issue.

  7. I am using NERO a version that supports SONY DRU510A. In fact this is how I proceeded: I made the film using WinProducer3 and MyDVD. First I burned it on a DVD-RW. No problem, all works. Then I produced an image using NERO. The problem came up when I started copying the image from hard disk to DVD-R. Now I ran a speed test with NERO and it says use 2.4 instead of 4.0 because your source data does not come fast enough. So if I go slower perhaps it will work, but then why do we pay for performance of a DVD drive or any other machine for that matter? I want to spot this problem before it eats up other DVD-Rs or causes other trouble. This is why I am asking for help.
