  1. So I'm thinking about ripping some of my DVDs to Divx and then later back to DVD. 1st off will I be crecating an avi file when I do this? If the answer is yes great. I have seen a lot of articles out there on how to do this. Info on DivX 3.11 and divX 5.1. I can figure out how to do the ripping by reading the articles. I just need to know where to start.

    Which article or method for ripping DVD to DivX or avi is the best. I realize I may be leaving some info out. My basic goal is to have either the full movie or clips on my computer that I can later build to DVD.

    Also how can one tell if their DVD is a doom 9 dvd or a doom5 dvd?

    Thanks in advance.

    When you first rip the dvd, its going to be in vob format. From there, you can convert to avi or whatever you want. About which guide to follow, try this one.

    I think you mean DVD-5(single layer) or DVD-9(dual layer),use DVDDecrypter->Mode->ISO->Read.

  4. And why exactly do you want to go DVD -> divx -> DVD? You have a DVD burner (one would assume) and the original DVD disc (one would assume), so what's with the middle man???

  5. Thanks to everyone for the info. Greatly appreciated.

    And why exactly do you want to go DVD -> divx -> DVD?

    So I can put more than one movie or several movie clips onto one DVD. I do have a DVD burner and a DVD rom so I might just wind up backing up my DVD to DVD. I do see your point, but for what I'm doing DVD -> divx -> DVD seemed to be the only way. I'm new at this so perhaps I'm missing something.

    Thanks again.

    You don't need to convert the file to divx and then back to dvd. just run it through tmpgenc at a lower bitrate or through dvdshrink and you'll get a smaller file.

    What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend?
