I am trying to figure out which title goes with which DVD button. I have tried playing the DVD with VLC and have the OSD on, but it does not tell me which title it will go to when I select a button from the menu. I am also looking for a free solution.
I tried using PGCEdit (https://www.videohelp.com/tools/PgcEdit) but it is really complicated for a newbie like me to get. Maybe there is someone who could explain it to me? I would love to have something that had a small preview screen and I could click on the menu button and record the title it was linked to.

    Thanks
    Steve

    In PgcEdit, load the DVD.
1 Highlight the menu on the left panel
2 Click the menu button on the top
3 Select a button and watch what gets highlighted in the left panel

Thanks for the help, but for some reason when I select the button, none of the items on the left become highlighted. Any ideas? I am testing this out on a disk from South Park.

Highlighting the button, should show that information on the bar below.
Selecting the 'Edit' button and a new window opens where the command may be modified.
'Trace' (top menu) allows stepping through the DVD.

Menu buttons don't always jump directly to the title. They can link to a pgc for the menu instead, and the jump to the title is buried in the instructions there. It would be necessary to use PgcEdit's trace function to find the title if that is the case. PgcEdit does play video inside the trace function, but it isn't really intended to be used as a player and does not have a recording feature that I am aware of.

    1. Open the DVD
    2. Click on "Trace" on the menu bar
    3. Use the "Step" button to advance one instruction at a time until a menu window is displayed or the title is highlighted
    4. Select the required menu button if a menu pops up
    5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you eventually find the title.

The button to the left of the "Step" button (its Tool tip text is "Preview current cell") opens up a video window that can play the current cell in a title. Preview->Playback mode->Real Time with audio should be used to see and hear playback in real time.
