Okay, I have a simple question for you all.
I want to back up a DVD-9 (2 layer disk) using dvdshrink I can obtain this two ways, I can go by just copying the movie or copying everything but using compression on the movie. Now my question is, If I wanted all the options and everything on the DVD disc I am creating would it be wise to use compression or should I just copy the movie? Is there a significant amount of difference between say level 1-level 5 compression if so what is the least amount of difference if any that you would see in such a level.
Thanks.

Run the program and compare the output yourself on your had drive. There is ALOT of difference between the different levels.
Personally when I want to save everything what I do is a movie disc that has all the extras compressed all the way down, then a extras disc that has the movie compressed down. -
Greetings,
I used DVD shrink with a fairly good amount of movies.
Since the version 3 latest beta is out, I am only using this version and I am more than very satisfied.
I usually compress to maximum the menus and extras so the movie has the highest compression ratio possible (The highest, the least the movie is compressed with the dvdshrink way to show things). Also, most of the time, I remove the extra languages and I use still picture for the movie trailers.
When the compression ratio is over 60, it is almost impossible to notice a quality difference. In fact, when it is over 60, I no longer bother to try to find something to remove or shrink. I began to notice some very very few image degradation with HD TVs when it is under 60. For normal TVs, I saw some degradation with high movement scenes only under 50 (more under 45 I would say).
Anyone has a better eye than I and saw degradation over 60?
Thank you -
It would depend on how much space the extras take and how big the movie is. If you have 4.5 GB of movie snad 300 MB oif extra's, that's not a big deal.
If you have 5.5 GB of Movies, 2 GB of Extras and 800 MB or Menu...you have a quandry. I usually drop all the subs and undesired audio tracks, then trim the intro and credits. I can usually hit 100% on the movie (this means no transcoding). I have yet to do a DVD that was under 90%. Of course I have a lot of older movies that are DVD5's, so it's a moot point.
DVDShrink has a great feature in the re-author mode. I have several DVD's of just extras from movies. You need to rip the disks to your harddrive (unless you have a DVD drive for each disk). You can rip extra only, them make ISO images and mount them with Daemon tools. Then you can add several disks together and re-author.To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan
