I want to use Intervideo DVD Creator 2 to create the DVD Vob files but not in 2 HR format but in 1 HR format ... Reason : higher bitrate.

Then use TMPGenc DVD Author to create my DVD Vob/file structure. And ignore the message that the final files will be over 5 Gigs.

And then use DVD Shrink to recompress to the size needed to fit on a DVDR.

Okay ... I've tried it and DVDShrink says it can not open the VOB files.

When I use PowerDVD the movie plays.

What's wrong ?? ... is DVDShrink rejecting the Motion Menu features. Or do I need a specific audio format. Mpeg audio ... AC-3 or ... LPCM are my choices with Intervideo DVD Creator 2.

Intervideo DVD Creator 2 only gives me two choices:

    1 HR mode

Video Codec : InterVideo MPEG Video Encoder
    Frame Width: 720
    Frame Height: 480
    Frame Rate: 29.97
    Frame Type: Frame Base
    Bit Rate: 7200 Kbits/sec
    Aspect Ratio: 4 : 3
    GOP: 15
    Sub GOP: 3
    Motion Vector Horizontal: 32
    Motion Vector Vertical: 32

    or ... 2 HR mode

Video Codec : InterVideo MPEG Video Encoder
    Frame Width: 352
    Frame Height: 480
    Frame Rate: 29.97
    Frame Type: Frame Base
    Bit Rate: 3600 Kbits/sec
    Aspect Ratio: 4 : 3
    GOP: 15
    Sub GOP: 3
    Motion Vector Horizontal: 32
    Motion Vector Vertical: 32

I want my final DVD project to have the best video image. But DVDShrink is rejecting the DVD Vob file structure that TMPGEnc DVD Author is creating. WHY ??

I do the same thing you want to do. I capture an MPEG2 with my Dazzle DVC II at 7000-8000 CBR. I then Author using TMPGENC Author and ignore the "Illegal" message, my files are anywhere from 5GB-8GB. I then use DVDShrink 3 Beta 5 to make a 2+ Hour movie a perfect fit onto 1 DVD. Not sure why yours is crapping out, are you using VBR in the process somewhere, I had problems once capturing a VBR MPEG2 and trying to use DVDShrink. Maybe Intervideo is your problem, I didn't have much success with their stuff.

  3. There seems to be a bug in DVD shrink beta 3.5 when used with TmpgencDVD. I've been told it is a know issue.

Use DVD shrink 2.3 instead. Both can reside on your computer at the same time. Someone just suggested that you can run 2.3 with no compression and then run the result through 3.5 if you want to take advantage of the deep analysis feature in 3.5. I find that 2.3 does a great enought job.

  4. I agree with Presto.
The 3beta5 has some problems in reading TMPGEnc DVDAuthor output,
using the 2.3 everything goes ok.
    Hope it helps.

Thanks guys ... first chance I shall try.

I still have the other DVDShrink programs ... installed. LOL

Intervideo DVD Creator is easy for me ... but I sure hope your idea works. I have made quite a few XXX movies filled with motion buttons and size was beyond a DVD-R ... I thought DVD Shrink would shrink it to a correct size ... I shall try your suggestions ... its late [2:16 AM] and I have to be at work at 11AM.

By the way what Mpeg encoders do you use?? Intervideo DVD Creator 2 opens up ... Microsoft wmv ... videos. That is one reason I use it.

It has to be the source file, as I use TMPGENC Author and DVDShrink 3 Beta 5 and have made over 100 Dazzle DVD II MPEG2 capture/author/shrink conversions with no problems guys.
