    Just about every other cd I burn vcd or music causes the pc to freeze. I've tried nero 5 and the nti cd maker. Can anyone help me? The cd drive worked well in my other pc but i pulled it to add another dvd drive. The pc is a p3 600 with 256 megs of ram. The drive has been both a master and a slave and has a new cable.

    What OS is the Piii running? When was the last time it was re-installed?

    Have you tried simulating a burn with Nero?

    Windows xp pro, no and somtime around christmas. I have tried burn speeds from 2-48x with the same results.

    I would suggest simulating a burn - as this may help you narrow it down as to whether it's a hardware or software problem.
