This is my first time using DVDx 2.2, and I'm using it to rip one of my DVD's. The DVD is Ghost in the Shell(an anime).
I used this guide: http://rip.corusa.com - I followed EVERYTHING it told me to do.
When I finish the whole process, I end up with an AVI that is only 166MB. I have no idea why. I did everything the guide told me to do, down to every detail, except one: In the input setting I used Japanese audio and included subtitles. In the guide, it did not use another language, just English. But I doubt this would make an AVI file go down to 166MB.
I did get one problem however, it was one of those "auth.dll: Can't authenticate drive Disk may not be locked" I have read about this problem, and all the solutions say to open the file in smartripper, which I did. Or to play the DVD in PowerDVD for about 5 seconds, which I did. But I still got that same message.
But most people said that they just ignored this problem and they got good results, so I did the same.
Can anyone please tell me how to fix this? I really want to make a back-up of my DVD, many of mine get scratched and I need a back up. Thankyou.

One of the main causes of the fall of the Roman Empire was that, lacking zero, they had no way to indicate successful termination of their C programs.

There are only 4 comments about that program here: https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=59#comments
and a couple note problems. So, it doesn't look like it's used by many members here.
Maybe you could try DVDShrink. Very popular around here, (45 comments praising it), good guides, and it's free. :c)There's no place like 127.0.0.1
The Rogue Pixel: Pixels are like elephants. Every once in a while one of them will go nuts. -
Well, thanks for the reply guys. I can't fix the problem, I think I'll just go on to use another program.
And Gees, I would use your advice, but they say that DVDShrink is used for taking DVD's and shrinking them down to a size of a DVD-R. And I don't have a DVD burner anyway, so that wouldn't work for me.
This DVD ripping stuff is really starting to annoy me. I have followed so many tutorials and guides to every detail and for some odd reason not once has it worked out. Not with DVD2SVCD, not with DVDx, not with EasyDivX, not with anything. I'm really starting to wonder why, I don't understand what's wrong that it just doesn't work every single time, when it really should because I do the EXACT SAME THING they do in the guides, and they get good results. One of the main causes of the fall of the Roman Empire was that, lacking zero, they had no way to indicate successful termination of their C programs.

$$$am,
I used to use DVDx all the time to make VCD's, prior to getting a DVD burner. I thought it was, and is, a great program.
Maybe there's some flaw on your "Ghost in the Shell" DVD that DVDx can't get past. I noticed that sometimes when I used DVDx on a scratched DVD it would skip large sections on it's own, and the final mpg output file would be much smaller than it should. Is your 166MB AVI file playable? Maybe that can give a hint as to where DVDx is possibly choking. Have you tried ripping another DVD to see if you have the same problem?
Also, I've gotten that "auth.dll: Can't authenticate drive Disk may not be locked" many times. I just ignore it and don't usually have a problem. Interestingly, I have gotten that error when using DVDx to rip a DVD that I authored myself with my own captured files (not a commercial DVD.) -
