i use my DV camera to video parties n stuff with my friends. i would like to start putting in some titles that popup at the start of scenes showing what the time was when it was video'ed. i can find out what time it was in each scene if i look at the original DV tape and look at the date & time on the DV camera screen or a TV...but this is time consuming and annoying.

is there anyway that a peice of computer software could retreive these date & time stamps from my DV tape and put them in a text file, or even capture the scenes with the correct time in the filename or something like that?

it's just a pain having to keep looking through my tapes to find the times that certain things happend.

    thanks,
    ftc.

    Hi,

Microsoft Movie Maker (Windows XP) shows Date/Timestamps of DV video... even from edited video!
    But is rather slow...

Did some searching on Google and found this:

    DV Sub Maker
Extract DV Date and Time from DV Avi file and make Subtitles from it.
You can use Your favorite player to watch Your video with DateTime Stamp, or make DVD or SVCD with DateTime subtitles.
Currently PAL TV type supported only.
    - ver. 1.3. 27 October 2002. Improved DateTime extraction algorithm. Added support for Sonic Scenarist NT/ReelDVD subtitle script.

Tryed it... Really nice and fast too!!!

    Look at http://icqphone.ru/video2tv/
    or download it : http://icqphone.ru/video2tv/DVSubMaker.zip

    donpedro,

Yes, I have tested it and it worked very nice...!
The program outputs Date/Time in .sub format... Shows Date/Time all the way through the movie!!!
Had to use a subconversiontool to get .stl format to use in DVDMaestro...
    Downloaded that tool from http://www.divx-digest.com
DVSubMaker is a very nice and simple tool to do the job!!!

since i first posted this question, i've changed the way i do my video's
    a fair bit.

i've switched from using adobe premiere to using sonic foundry vegas.

it reckon it's way better (for what i do anyway), easier to use, and definately faster, as it wasnt written for mac like premiere was originally.

so anyway, back to the timestamp shizz0r...

using vegas i capture my dv tapes using scene detection, therefore each recording session (everytime you hit record, then stop on the camera) is split up into individual files while its being captured.

then once im ready to edit, i dump all of these files into the 'media pool' tab in vegas. click details, and theres a fuckload of columns of info on each dv file. one of them being the timestamp from the tape. excellent shit, all of the timestamps for each clip are up on my screen while im editing.

once i've selected all the clips i want for the final edit, i just check the timestamp of each clip looking for big gaps between scenes, when i find one, i put in a little title fading the time in and out breifly.

    so w00ty mcw00tz for vegas.

  9. I have used the DVsubMaker to generate a *.sub file but I do not know how to add it to the AVI file or MPEG2 file. I have Ulead media studio 7.
