  1. I recently converted a Pal DVD Wedding to Ntsc for my sister in America, It seems to have worked, but I am a little confused . The Pal version was 1.3mb in size but after the conversion it is now 1.8mb is this normal ? also it play's fine in all the standalone dvd players I have tried , but is their any way to confirm it will play on my sister's player in America?

OK....yes it could be bigger because of a few reasons:

    1. NTSC uses 29.97 frames per second while PAL uses 25......That's almost 5 extra frames per second...that's going to take up space.

    2. You may have encoded the ntsc at a higher bit rate than the original....more bits per second...more space

Will it play on your sisters machine? Hmmmmm....the best answer is it might...do you remember when recordable cd's first came out? The older cd players had trouble understanding them and wouldn't play them. Think of it like that. Chances are yes it will work....but you can't guarantee it till she tries it.

No way to confirm 'til she trys it - but the chances are good if you made the coversion to match NTCS standards in resolution, framerate, etc.

NTSC is more frames/second than PAL, so it makes sense that it is slightly larger.

Did you use pcm audio? For ntsc it needs to be pcm or ac3.

took me too long to type this - someone's answered most of it already :c)
    There's no place like 127.0.0.1

It goes without saying that you should check your sister's player on the DVD player list on the left to see if it will play the type disk you are making. Several of the machines won't play it even if it is NTSC standard.

  8. Hmmm this a good question I just made a DVD for a friend in the US and converted the mpg's to NTSC with Tmpgenc. Then made a DVD using Tmpgenc DVD Author. Dropped it into my Panasonic E-50 and it played on my TV without problem. I was expecting that I would have to change the settings in the E50 at least to NTSC DVD for it to play on my TV?

Anyone else tried this and if should it play so easily on an E-50?

I'm highly dubious that this will play on my US chums machine though.
