  1. Hello again everyone,

I was just watching The Bourne Identity, and around chapter 12 I got pixelation that got progressively worse into the next chapters. This is a back up on Verbatim media burned with a Plextor PX-708A with AnyDVD and CloneDVD. I took the disk out and it is now playing fine in my PC in a LiteON DVD/CDRW combo drive. My question is, do you think that this could be a heat related issue with my Toshiba set top player, or the media? I do have it in a cabinet sitting on top of my Yamaha amp, but the DVD playter is short enough width wise that it doesn't really sit on any of the vents on the amp. I am letting it cool down now to try and see if that is the issue. Any related problems, knowledge or experience with this type of thing would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You could do some investigating while waiting for replies. :c) Don't know how high the odds are of someone having same discs and same player and spotting your post in time..

See if your Media is listed in the database here & same for your Player. Maybe it is there and if so other owners/users leave comments there on what works best with which.

The Toshiba 2800 is my primary player, and the best one I've ever found.

In your case, I'd say the problem lies in either CloneDVD making a mess or the media being bad.

That said, My Toshiba is on my tv, with plenty of ventilation, though the unit has never gotten hot. Well, not too hot.

Does the disc make noise while spinning? Normally that's the sign of bad media. If this is DVD-R Verbatim, and is CMC-made, there's your problem. My Toshiba 2800 hates cheapo media.

Try redoing this on good media (Ritek, Apple, Optodisc, Maxell, TDK). I bet you'll be fine.

  5. Thanks very much for your input Gees and Lordsmurf. I have not as of yet gone back to the Toshiba to check if it is heat or maybe the media. I will say that I watched a movie the other night on TDK media, and burned with XcopyXpress played all the way to the end no problem. I had serious issues with XcopyXpress and so started using AnyDVD and CloneDVD in conjunction. May I ask what you use Lordsmurf to back up? And also does your SD-2800 like Ritek G04's, and are the chances high they will work in my Plextor burner? Thank you very much...excuse me for picking your brain on such things, I do respect the work it takes to understand via experimentation. Does CloneDVD suck or what?

I know you asked LS, but he's not here right now.

Have you tried DVDshrink. Brilliant, IMHO and completely free, so no harm in trying it. :c)

  7. Yes, excellent idea. Sorry..was not trying to be rude at all. I will try this program as soon as I get the chance. Many here say they like it, and like you said..can't beat free! Thanks Gees...what do you think of Ritek GO4 meida? Some say it is the best right behind the Taiyo Yuden.

  8. Your problem lies in using AnyDVD. I gave up at using ANYDVD because it does not fair too well on DVD's that might be scratched. Use DVD Decrypter and CloneDVD and you wont see a problem.

  9. Well, I think the problem was heat. I stuck a room fan blowing right into my cabinet with the player and amp, and played that same movie. It didn't even flinch. So I suppose I will move the equipment around, although I did order some Ritek media from Rima and will try some other programs as well. Thanks for everyones help!
