    5 shows with avg 2440 / max 9570 bitrate / 224 audio

Burned the folder with ImgBurn 1x on 8x RITEKG05 DVD -R using Samsung SH-S183L with latest firmware.

The first chapter plays fine on my Sony dvd player, but the rest of the chapters will stutter or not read at all. My Pioneer dv414 will not even load the disc. I have used the same workflow with a smaller test clip and it worked with the Pioneer, the only difference is it was burned at 2x instead of 1x. Update, I tried burning at 1x, 2x, 4x and 8x, all with similar results. fwiw.

Could it be the media causing the problem?

I should note too, that the DVD folder, plays perfectly in VLC

    Thanks

Maybe try lowering the max bitrate? Could be bitrate spikes. The workflow looks fine to me.

1X? Try burning at a more reasonable speed. Some might also suggest to ditch the Riteks.

Burn at 8x it is more likely to work on your burner. I'd guess that 1x isn't in the writestrategy for the media.

If it does work at 8x then consider whether to go with what works or listen to the naysayers who will definitely tell you to burn slower.

If you subscribe to the conventional wisdom about DVD media ditch the Ritek media.

If the burns verify and read on your PC and your players are more than a year old, dump the Sony and the Pioneer.

Or perform some combination of these actions which pleases you.

Optical media compatibility isn't science, so do what works for you.

  5. Simple test - change the order of the clips. If clip #2, which now stutters, plays fine at position #1, that at least verifies that it is NOT the MPG itself.

Yes, I have seen this happen.

It turned out to be a media problem. I bought some Verbatim DVD+R digital movie discs and burned at 6x. Works PERFECTLY on both of my dvd players.

    Thanks all

Glad your are in business, but seeing as you changed 2 variables it's hard to say if it was a media (brand) problem or a burning speed problem.

It was definitely media. I didn't mention that I tried all available speeds with my Ritek media, 1x, 2x, 4x and 8x. Only after that did I buy new media. I'll put that in the original post.
