  1. help people, b4 i go insane!!!
i bought an LG4040b burner 2 weeks ago and have had no success backing up my movie collection, being a newbie i have read heaps on the subject because i thought i must be doing something wrong. what is happening is this....i burn a movie onto dvd-r and the burn seems to go well, it completes with no errors, but when i play it back on my comp or standalone player it starts getting choppy and eventually locks up, it always happens during the last half of the movie, i have tried different brands of media with still the same result, i have tried different software with the same result...but here's the odd thing, if i burn the movie onto a dvd-rw disc it plays back fine!!
    my system is -
    epox 8rda+
    athlon 2000+xp
    windows xp pro sp1
    leadtek 4200ti vivo
    1x 40g + 1x 80g hd
    LG 4040B dvd burner
    LG dvd rom
Pri ide - 40g hd master/80g hd slave
Sec ide - dvd burner master/dvd rom slave

pls..pls..pls can somebody figure this out for me

Instead of saying help, help, how about telling us what your process for backing up your movies is (i.e. programs you are using to back-up with and what burning program you are using and what media (brand). Otherwise we will be trying to read your mind. You don't mention any of the above in your post. Want help, please post back with some information we can go on. Thanx.

Look up your burner in the WRITER section to the left. Read the comments other owners have left on what media works/doen't work for them.

Look up your Media in that section. Read comments there as well.

Put your writer name/model in the search box top-right on this page and look for threads found.

Do the same for your media.

  6. My standalone DVD player (an old Panasonic A350 bought in 1998)
accepts both DVD-R and DVD+R formats, but only when they are burned
at low speed. 1x, 2x and 2.4x are OK, but 4x and 8x do not work.

If I burn a disk at 4x, the player freezes at half the movie. If I burn the disk
at 2x, the whole movie plays fine.

Perhaps your issue is similar. Perhaps you burn your DVD-R disks at 4x and
your DVD-RW disks at 2x ... at that's why only the DVD-RW disks work.
