  1. Can someone offer me some assitence before I throw the computer through the window!!!!

Try as I might, and using numerous guides, templates and tips (for TMPG) I cannot get a smooth playing encoding from divx to svcd. I still get (in some cases) very jerky playback.

Can someone please help me out!!!

    Thanx in advance

Oh CGunn, I recommended you EDIT your original post's title, not start another. :c*

A Mod may come along and warn about cross-posting now.

To edit a post - go back into it and click edit button.

If you started the thread you can also change its title.

But, do you see what I mean about the "HelpMe" types? Not a single person besides me has answered that.

People already know people here are looking for help and adding urgent only means urgent to you - not them :c)

    Good luck.

If you give some details of what programs you used, any guides/procedures that you followed and the exact nature of the problem, then people can offer tips and advice. The more detailed the better.

Until then we can only speculate on the problem.

Jerky playback can be caused by bad media, or converting from one bit rate to another improperly. Any luck?

  6. Now on to your actual question.

There are 2 common reasons I can think of right for jerky playback:-

    1) Frame rate change. Make sure you encode to the same framerate as the original avi if at all possible. You are in the UK, which uses the PAL system for TV which is 25fps. Even so most UK TV's and DVD players will handle NTSC (29.97fps) and NTSCfilm (23.97fps) quite happily. So select the Tmpgenc template that most closley matches the framerate of ths source.

    2) Incorrect field order. If your source material is interlaced, make sure your output is interlaced also. If it is jerky, try encoding a sample with the field order reversed (top filed or bottom filed firts).

    Hope this helps.
