Hey folks,
forgive the idiocy of this question -
I just bought a panasonic e80h because I like the options of the standalone and the editing capabilities (i *hate* capturing on my computer for vcds).
As I want to make multiple copies of my dvd's, I figured I should use my computer since the panny is so darn slow (even with high speed turned on). However, right now, I do not have a dvd-rom OR a burner, but I will be buying a Sony DRU510A multiformat burner. (that only took me three weeks to pick out.) Now, here's the question -
I do not have a dvd-rom on my computer right now, would it be better to have both a dvd-ram and a dvd burner for copying, or will the burner be enough (I would copy to harddrive using the Sony DRU510A, and then burn from the harddrive.) My computer is fairly new (ok, 9 months, and that's probably ancient) and has plenty of hd space and memory.
However, I want to be as speedy as possible. So - your advice, PLEASE!!!!

I think most people would not recommend using your burner as a ripper/copier, but to use it solely as a burner - if possible.
If you intend to do enough of these to justify the purchase, I'd say yes - invest in both and treat your burner with the gentle, loving care it deserves. :c)There's no place like 127.0.0.1

Well no, mine came installed. My husband likes Plextor, Asus, HP, Teac. There's loads available. Look for a highspeed that gets good reviews on the various techy sites.
I don't think you could make a bad choice. :c)
Oh, and you're welcome. Good luck. Have fun with it.There's no place like 127.0.0.1

If I had a stand alone with DVD-RAM, I think I would buy a writer with DVD-ram. Maybe the newest Panasonic with 3x RAM when it hits the shelves, or maybe one of the other manufacturers that support RAM disks. I like the deep tray drives so that I can use RAM in a cartridge, keeps them slightly cleaner!
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?
