Hi,
I searched around and couldnt find anything exactly relating to the question i have. I have pioneer 107d with 1.10 hacked firmware and a pioneer 105 with 1.33 hacked firmware. Dont think that is problem yet though.
My problem is ive backed up a movie, plays great on standalone player, but if i try to copy it again it will copy 99% - 100% and then come up with a crc copy error.
Ive been using Dvddecryptor, DVD Shrink and Nero. Ive been using Ritek G04's and playback has been superb. DVD Shrink was set to 4464 if i remember correctly (since set it back to 4350).
Is that the problem right there? Do i need to set DVDShrink @ 4350 or even less?
Thanks for the help, and sorry for the long post![]()

edit: oh i have tried already with lesser rating, and it seems to be working, just would like to know the definate reason behind the error.

Just drag the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders from the disc you want to copy to your hard drive, then burn these folders to a new disc.

Rip in dvd decrypter iso mode
Write in dvd decrypter iso mode -
hey fellas thanks for replying
Craig, tried copying files from dvd-r back to hard drive and same thing happens. Gets to the last file which is like 26k and it stops. Just trying to rip it in iso mode now, will reply back in a second.
Thanks once again for helping me out. -
hey Hardcoreruss, just come back from trying to rip it in iso mode and gets to the end of the disc and i get same error. I guess it just has to be that i had the disc as too big in dvdshrink. I just left it on the default setting, didnt think i would need to change it. Will copy say 10 this weekend and see if there is a difference.
Thanks for the help guys.

Have you made sure the disc is clean, are there any visible smudges or scratches on the bottom of the discs.

I have the exact same set up (with the exception of the firmware hack) and get the exact same problem. Read this thread:
https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=200446&highlight=
I really don't think anyone has a real good idea of what is causes this. There are several good opinions and ideas, and several that are just blanket statements of "you just don't know what you're doing", but the bottom line is I haven't heard a real good explanation for this problem.
It's not bad media. I can reproduce this at will. Any backed up disk I have can not be backed up to another disk. You must either re-rip the back up to the HD or go back to your master and rip it to the HD. I've used nothing but G03 and G04 and numerous different lots of each so it can not be a "bad media" problem.
The fact that the disk may not be finalized is the only thing that sounds plausible but even that has holes in it. It would mean that I've got over 150 back ups none of which have been finalized yet all of them play beginning to end with no issue.
I hope you find your answer, and if so please share it with the rest of us that experience the same issue.
BTW - That is not the only thread on the subject. I have read this several times with about the same discussion and end result. -

With my ritek G04's, I just copy the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders to my hard drive and then burn the folders to a new disc, no problems. I use DVDlab to author the original discs and record now max to burn the folders that DVDlab produces.

far out, all the replies! Only hope that i can help people in the future. Im pretty much a noob, and then im only making straight copies. All the menu stuff, playing around with it all.... just too much for me!
Craig, yep made sure disc is clean with no scratches or marks of any kind. Would try different media (currently just got ritek g04's), but decent discs are not easy to find here in Queensland, Au.
Wow Goirish!, just had a look at that topic and alot of things for me to try. Who knows 1 of them might work for me and not for you?? Can only try i guess. Mine are only happening at 99% or later. I will keep you posted if i find out anything.
The only reason i used dvddecryptor was when i 1st started i wanted the files on my hard drive so i wasnt using dvd or anything. Then after that its just been out of habit. It also seems to get pretty favourable reviews from people, so kept with it.
Thanks peoples once again. Will post back to let you know how it goes. Will do the 10 over the weekend, cause now im just plain out curious! If i find the solution do i get a reward? hehe jk.

There really should not be any diff in the way DVDShrink makes a VTS compared to the way DVD Decryptor or DVDlab does.
I'm trying the copy to HD now to see what happens. -
I THINK IVE DONE IT!!!!! bite me if capitals are too much for you, its 11:30pm and ive spent 2 days trying to work this out. In the end it was really simple as well. Here is the explanation, to the best of my somewhat limited knowledge!
The problem was with the end of the disc, atleast in my case. Ive been using the latest version of DVD Shrink and this as im finding out is happening to all dvds that were encoded to the full capacity of the dvd-r. In the latest version the default size from memory is 4464. I think possibly that is the Gb size. By this i mean 4.464Gb which is equal to about 4,800,000,000 bytes, which in turn is more than a dvd can hold.
So thats it, my explanation anyway. I also checked dvdshrink 1.03 and default size is 4.38Gb which is 4,706,074,624.
Hope this might help others out, and if this is not right then someone tell me.
ok now for my reward ............. hehe

I sometimes have the 99% error. However, the the copied disk still plays flawlessly from start to end
-
hey brushswinger, yes that was exactly what happened for me too. It just didnt make any sense, played flawlessly yet there was an error. Hopefully all is fixed
.
Thanks to the guys who helped me out!

Nato,
Can't help you with your original problem, but the comment obout not being able to get good discs in Queensland caught my eye.
I have just been trying out a new 107D with the "new and improved"1.10 firmware have found the new LASER brand white printable DVD-R in 50 pack burn REAL well at 8X.
have done about 15 so far and not error in the lot and will playback on any thing I can find to throw them into.
you should be able to get them QLD. There fairley common in Sydney. -

I will almost guarantee that the problem is a very small smudge mark on the very outer ring caused by a fingerprint. It happens even if you hold the edge of the disc. Clean the very outer edge of the disc and just try ripping that last file.If in doubt, Google it. -
hey Revsredneck, ahhh yes laser, almost forgot about those. When i had pioneer dvr-105 bought a spindle and they were ...well utter shite! But i havent tried them with latest burner so might have to give them another go. Thanks
.
Jimmalenko, thanks for that. Poke a big hole in my theory. I will give them a bit of a wipe down and see how i go. Thank you very much
