I've NEVER had beta 3.0 work correctly on my XP Pro....get rid of that thing and get the 2.3 version....MUCH more stable on my machine.

newfane18, could you give us more details about your system?
What DVD drive(s) are you using?
    Is your processor overclocked?
How much spave available on your hard-drive(s)?
What burning/backup softwares do you have installed?
Is your system up-to-date, in terms of drivers?
Have you previously managed to make backups with v3.0b5?
+ anything else that might help.

hech54, thousands are using DVD Shrink v3.0b5 successfully with XP Pro.
What kind of problems did you experience?

Just out of curiosity, what kind of trouble?
    Was it with beta 5?

  6. Yes, beta 5. To be specific, as soon as I clicked on "Open Disc", the program would stop responding, with buttons grayed out. Now, perhaps the download was corrupted, or a reinstall might have been in order. But I've been so pleased with the old version, I just reinstalled that.

The only thing I would like to see is the ability to keep menus, merely to have scene selection. I have a lot of company there. A true gem of a program, though.

This could be a power supply problem. This happened to me until I put in a 400W power box.

I'd be interested to know what power box he has, how about telling us Newfane.

  10. I have never had a problem with version 3 beta 5, works fine on XP Home. Regarding your PC restarting, i think it is most likely to do with CPU overheating. Try and monitor the CPU temp and see what it gets to.

I downloaded Beta5 twice and both times went back to 2.3 instead. I had the same "open disc" problems as fritzi93 on the second download...and on the first download every time I hit the Reauthor button....I'd get a new main window again. I'n NOT mad in any way....2.3 works just fine for me and my XP Pro...)

  15. Thanks to all responders...CPU looks cool, not overclocked....I could use a power upgrade from my Emachine standard Power Supply: PS, 250 WATT. Running XP home, using LG GDR-8161B DVD-Rom and burning on LG GMA-4020B. Copy most DVDs fine with XCopyExpress but was having problems ripping problem ones with DVDShrink3.0Beta5. However....I have since installed DVDShrink 2.3 and also defragged my very-fragmented drive, cleaned things up and ran RegMechanic. I was then able to use DVDShrink 2.3 and then burn with Pinnacle Instant Copy-Instant CD-DVD which took lightyears. Anyone have info on firmware that might speed up that process?(Also using AnyDVD, B'sRecorder Gold 5 which work well). Thanks to all!!!

250 Watt is not enough, buy a 400 watt and your troubles are over.
