  1. I just picked up an ATI AIW 9000 pro and I'm trying to create DVDs from my VHS tapes and I'm having some problems.

I followed Lord Smurf's guide on setting up the recorder. I recorded about 5 mins of test video just to see how it will come out and it works fine.

When I try to import the video into DVDit PE, the program crashes and exits. I tried to manually demux the video and audio with TMpeg. That works but when I try to author with IFOEdit, it crashes.

DVDit does work with avi's and mpegs done in TMPeg. Is there any possible thing I'm doing wrong in the ATI's setup?

    Thanks for you help.

DVDit! only accepts WAV (or AC3 audio if using PE), so be sure to demux the files from ATI first. Convert the MP2 audio to WAV or AC3 with an audio program. (I use SoundForge 6 to convert to WAV, dehiss and quality adjust as needed, then let DVDit! PE convert to AC3 at author.)

Be sure to check Sonic Solutions (sonic.com) for any possible updates for DVDit! Are you using XP? If so, you'll need the recent updates.

IFOedit isn't really an authoring app. Try TMPGEnc DVD Author too. It'll accept ATI files with no changes needed (muxed MPEG audio/video).

Will Windows Media player play the mpegs ?
You might have a strange mpeg decoder somewhere.

    WMP plays the files correctly.

Well, I tried Ulead DVD Movie Factory 1 with the mpeg file and it worked. I didn't have time to do a test burn but I'll try that later on today.

I'm gonna try Tmpeg DVD author to see what it can do.

I just want simple menus with chapter points. Nuttin' fancy, just episodes, some rare stuff and old home movies.

Lord Smurf, your site's looking good. I'm hoping to see the restoration section open soon because I need to restore a good bit of my stuff.

    Thanks.

  5. It's all good. I captured a few minutes of Bewitched using LS's settings and burned to DVD-RW using Ulead. Playback is nice. It looks pretty good, a little better than VHS, but that could be due to the TV show itself is very old (1960s).

    Thanks.

Now time to buy that Sony 4x DVD writer. That Pioneer is SOO slow.
