    I have an Aopen DRW4410 4x4x8x +RW drive.

    If I use a DVD that is 4x speed, Nero, only lets me select 4x burn speed.There are no slower options.

    I tried burning with DVD Decrypter, and although it lets you select different speeds, it always burns at 4x.

    Is this normal?

    Only with some hacked firmware, from my experience.

    I have never seen an instance where a slower speed was not available... very odd !

    I just upgraded to the latest 1.11 firmware.

    I wrote Aopen and they promptly replied!

    "DR,

    Well basically, dvdr's/rw are different from CDRs/Ws. They do not have the same format and cannot select speeds to burn. They only burn at that speed the disc are rated. Its the way the dyes are on the disc.
