So I bought the Philips mx3900d home theater about 2 months ago. It was working fine until the other morning I came out into the living room and I heard a clicking. It was from the DVD player... the On/Standby button was cycling through with no light (for about 2 seconds) then green light (for about 2 seconds) then red light (for about two seconds) and it keeps doing this in an endless cycle. During this process it doesn't respond to anything as far as pushing buttons on the remote or player itslelf and the display panel never lights up, so the player is basically useless at this point. I called Philips support, but they were no help. They told me to unplug it for 10 seconds and plug it back in and then if that didn't work to hold in the power button... both of which I had already done and didn't work. To make matters worse, I have a DVD rental from blockbuster stuck in the player. Any suggestions to try and fix it and/or get the DVD out would be appreciated. It is still under warranty, but they told me it would be 3-4 weeks before they could even get around to looking at it.

IMO, you should not try to fix it, because it is new and under warranty. To get your disc out, open it up and (depending on the type of loading mechanism it has) lift the disc clamp up and remove your disc. That is, if it is the springloaded type of clamp. You'll know, when you try to pull up on it, if it comes up easily. DON'T FORCE IT!
If you can't lift the disc clamp, try accessing the loading motor (unplug the unit before doing this). Turn it by hand - it will have either a belt from the motor pulley or set of gears. It may be under the disc assembly itself, so you may have to take out a couple of screws to access the motor and loading assembly. Turn it until the tray unloads enough to get your disc out, then turn it the other way to close the tray.
And send the unit in for service. Sounds like it could be a electronic/CPU problem or power supply problem in the player itself. Let them fix it - it is their responsibility!! :PEthernet (n): something used to catch the etherbunny
