  1. Thinking of buying this drive to edit my E50's dvd-ram dics by adding menus and removing commercials but want to know if this will work with the panasonic's ram. I've have heard different reports on this issue. If it cannot than is there any computer dvd writer that is compatible that is reccomended?

    Thanks

  2. Well..it IS compatable with -ram disks, and there isnt much other choice out there on the market...so try it and see, 99% chance it'll work. I have it, it works with the included "maxell" dvd-ram disk

  3. It will read the E80 disc, but I heard you won't be able to copy a movie from pc to ram which will play on the E80. Panasonic E80 write some weird algorithim to the disc or something thing like that.

Could you please stop the disinformation if you don't know what you are saying?

Of course the LG GSA-4040B is compatible with the Panasonic recorded DVD-RAM discs as long as you also use a RAM compatible authoring and burning software, for example, the DVD-Movie Album:

For most people who just need to read the RAM discs and convert them to the DVD-Video format, then burn the DVD-/+R discs, a DVD-ROM drive such as Toshiba SD-M1712 or Lite-On XJ-HD166S plus any DVD burner will do the job..

  5. Synergy;

Well I clearly don't understand this issue because I have been struggling with the same thing. Namely, I want DVD-RAM disks created on my LG GSA-4040B to be readable in my E100H. Do I understand that by using DVD-MovieAlbum I can achieve this? I had been thinking about returning the 4040B and getting a Panasonic PC burner to achieve compatibility. Would I still have to use DVD-MovieAlbum to make even the Panasonic burner work (since I see that it is bundled with many Panasonic burners), in which case it would make no sense to switch? Also, I can't figure out where to get it. Do you know? Or are there other available programs that can do the same thing?

Sorry for the dumb questions but I have been struggling with this one. I appreciate any clarity you can provide!

Yes, you need a DVD-VR compatible software, no matter which burner you choose, to write a DVD-RAM disc which can be read by your Panasonic recorder, and unfortunately Panasonic does not sell their DVD-Movie Album software separately on the market, only bundles it with their LF-D521 and LF-M621 burners. Another software is Ulead MediaStudio Pro or Movie Factory with the the DVD-VR Capture Plug-in and DVD-VR Wizard:

If you do a search on DVD-VR format support on the Internet, you'll find that Ulead seems to be the only supporter currently.

Thanks a ton--this is very helpful. Do you agree that for my stated purpose, and since I am otherwise happy with the 4040B, that it makes more sense to get and use this software than exchange it for a Panasonic? I was considering the LF-M621 but was having trouble finding it and it would likely cost more than the price of the 4040B and software combined. Just trying to make sure that from a user interface the two approaches would be the same (that is, using the 4040B with software is not significantly more cumbersome than using the LF-M621). I realize this question probably sounds stupid but since I don't yet really understand the DVD-VR bit I don't feel certain of the answer.

    Again--thanks for all your help!

Took a look at the Ulead site. MediaStudio Pro is clearly a lot more than I want to spend. Movie Factory seems more like it at $50 but I can't figure out how much the plug-in costs.....

Movie Factory 2 has DVD-VR capability included.
You don't need to pay extra for a plug-in.

  10. To nextlife1:

According to the following info from Ulead's website,

    http://www.ulead.com/dmf/compare.htm

DVD MovieFactory 2.0 is supposed to support DVD-VR, but I don't know why it says Japanese version only for the full version. You may want to contact Ulead to find out which version is for your need.

I agree that it's better to keep the LG burner if you can find a suitable software for less than $100.
