Ok, I've made 2 backups of 2 of my DVDs, each using a different method to back them up.
Die Another Day, I used trial version of DVDxCopy Xpress.(Main movie only)
Daredevil, I used DVD Decrypter, DVD2One, CloneDVD.(Menu and Movie)

Each different methods, both same results. After watching the backups they both "freeze" for a short period (1 or 2 seconds) of time and then the movie continues to play.
But when I watch these backups on my computer they play fine, is it the crappy DVD player that the Playstation 2 has, or is it something else?

    Specs:
    P4 2.66ghz
    Around 100gig free HD 7200rpm
    512mb DDR
Pioneer DVR-104 (I backup and play the movies on this)
Software I use to play the backups: Powerdvd, and Interactual Player.

    Standalone:
    Playstation 2

    Media used:
    Verbatim Datalife

I'm thinking about buying a new Standalone player that is DVD-R compatible since (to me) it looks like its a problem with my PS2.

    Thanks

Also I forgot something, I do have a long history with Playstation 2's.
First one I got on release, started the "Disc read error", luckily my parents knew the manager and ToysRus so he exchanged it for us.

About 2 or so years later the one that we exchanged for started the "Disc read error". So I called up Sony and they repaired it for free (replaced the lense the paper they sent back with it said).
Everythings been fine with it up until recent, it started the disc read error again (about 2 months ago when I tried to play a game, original btw) so I put a dvd lense cleaner cd in it and then it worked perfect.
Earlier I tried to play the original DVD of one of my movies that I backed up and it said "Please Insert Playstation Format Disc", ejected the disc and tried it again, and it worked.

Just a little extra info that I thought could help.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but theres 4 options for you
1: Open up the PS2 clean the laser
2: Purchase a laser lens disc cleaner (Not as effective as 1...but less risky and easier)
3: Open up the PS2 and do a Pot/voltage adjustment on the DVD Lens (Not recommended unless you are an electrician, or don't care about potentially breaking the PS2)
    4: Buy a new PS2

Your PS2 already was repaired once and it sounds like it MIGHT be on its way out. I recommend getting a laser lens disc cleaner first cause it might be a decent temporary fix. Just know that a lot of people have gone through this and these are the most common 4 solutions. Not all good, but these are your choices. Best of luck with this.

Sorry about that, after a re-read...well it sounds like the PS2 is having some trouble anyways, but don't worry too much just yet. I suggest different media. My V7 PS2 LOVES ritek G04 burnt at 4X, and TDK 2X DVD-R's. Experiment with media, and see what the PS2 has the least trouble reading.

    Hey, thanks for the help....

Yeah, I was fearing that my PS2 was coming to a end of the road. But I guess when it goes I'll just have to buy a new one, I've got too much money invested in games (40), and stuff for that P.O.S. and I'd hate to see it all go to waste. Hopefully it'll last until PSX 2.5 then I'll get one of those or assuming that the PS2 will drop in price may just get one of those.

Went to Walmarts website and they have a DVD-R compatible DVD player for like $60 so I may try to pick that up this weekend and give it a try. Since they're only like 5-10mins away from my house.

You can get $30 - $50 for a broken ps2 on ebay and the big rumor is that the price is supposed to drop down to $149 before the end of the year they were saying beforoe the end September at first but we'll see

So theoretically you could get a new ps2 for the prce of around 2 more games after a while

  7. actually I have that same problem. its the PS2 itself. Die another day is on a dual layered disc. the reason it pauses on the backup is because those programs dont remove the LAYER BREAKS from the dual layerd discs. The PS2 is trying to load the second layer, but the backup you made only has 1 layer. so when it looks for that second layer it pauses for a second, see that there is no second layer, and then continues on the first layer. its not the PS2. I have a version 7 PS2 which is the latest version and it does the same thing at the same exact spots. But only on certain movies. Die another day is one of them. I know the MATRIX does this also. when I play them in My set top DVD player it does not do this. so its not your PS2! I let my fried borrow my backup of DIE another day and his PS2 did the same thing. there was a thread on removing the layer breaks with ifoedit, but I dont know where it was. and it seemed pretty easy to do.

also it will pause at the same spots everytime. if you rewind it you will see. there is nothing wrong with the PS2.

Sounds right to me, I think I found that thread you were talking about, with removing the layer breaks.
    http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21617

Just got IFOedit, so ive never used it before, so it sounds like jibberish to me, but I'll try re-reading it and see if i can figure it out.
    Thanks

How come I dont notice these breaks in my Pioneer DVR-104 drive?
