Has anyone heard of Flexplay DVDs. I just read about them on CNN.com. Here is a link to the flexplay website ... http://www.flexplay.com/
They describe Flexplay DVDs as so:
A Flexplay DVD differs from a conventional DVD only in that it has a limited-time viewing window that begins when the consumer chooses to remove it from its packaging. After the allotted time, the disc becomes unreadable by the DVD player.
What's your thoughts on this?

Back it up before it dies.
It'll die off quicker than you can say Circuit City Divx Disaster -

I dont think the rules apply in this case. If you purchase the dvd, then it's legal to back it up(as long as you dont sell it to others). Unless flexdvd people say its illegal to do that, I concur w/ tgpo.
-
you're paying for use of the dvd for 48 hours, it is clearly stated on the package & website. you might own the disc forever, but you dont own the content that is/was on it for that 48 hours.
if you went and purchased a regular dvd, then there should be no issue with backing it up.. but this is a rental, just like blockbuster & HV, except you dont return it, viewing periods, & price are different.
i know you love the mods, but that doesnt mean you should take up for them when they do violate a forum rule and do deserve to have a warning issued to them. -
so you're saying from now on, everyone can be immune to warnings by saying they were "just kidding"?
-
Holy Crap this is old.
Jeex, I said that as a joke almost a year ago. Plus, as you state "it is clearly stated on the package & website", there was no package then, there was hardly a website then. They were then talking about the specs of it, not implementation. But since we're looking into the past I bet we can find plenty of warnings you deserve all over the place. So perhaps we should just go a head and look for those now as well. -
I'd say buy 2 copies, back up the opened one, leave the other sealed. Your "fair use" rights are for the purpose of preseving your original from becoming non-operational. Opening the package makes it become so.
Course for 14 bucks, you should just go buy a "real" one.
The point of this thread, though, is that you, Jeex, have hunted through a year's posts to find one to hang onto a Mod because they "picked" on you, biased pricks that the must be to have singled out such a fine upstanding fellow.
Maybe you should give it a rest. I haven't seen anyone picking on you, lately.
They probably will if you keep it up. "Course a "pro badass" can take all they can dish out, so do what you want.
I think you should cool it, but, again, you're you. No skin off my nose.
Cheers,
George -

Maybe tgpo was implying that you should make a back up copy in case your original disc becomes damaged during the 48 hour period?
Anyway, no one is going to give him a warning because you dont back track policy. He made the remark before the new warning system was put in place therefore that comment is not covered. It's the same as why if you buy an old car before seatbelts were mandatory you still do not have to install seatbelts.
If you really want I can give him an informal warning like we used to do before the new system, would that make you happy? -
tgpo, please read the forum rules before posting!
:P
Now go to your room young man! -
Out of curiousity, how does Flexplay and EZ-D correlate in the site's search engine?
It doesn't seem that a search for one would find the other, unless one really fine tuned the search.
Or, someone has actually searched out someone else's responses for the past year.
Ah, wellll
Mebbe the slap on the wrist will satisfy you.
What the hell, with everyone back in school, the site's been slow lately. -

well, isn't this a whole mess of issues....
Is this post a violation of forum rules?
it is now... was it then? I don't know, I wasn't posting then. Baldrick or a mod that was around at that time can answer that.
Are we playing favorites because TGPO is a mod?
was he a mod when he posted that? is that why he's not getting a formal warning? or is it that it's an old post that's being dredged up long after it's natural life?
Was it a joke?
didn't look like one to me, so I think the whole "it's obviously a joke" argument is disingenuous.
Should someone be liable today for a post that passed without comment almost a year ago?
personally, I don't think so. I doubt that most of the members here would. besides, who wants to troll old posts looking for ex post facto violations... other than someone with an axe to grind?- housepig

Jeex man, talk about digging up a thread from the grave! I am with housepig. It doesn't sound like a joke, but I think a reasonable statute of limitations has passed on this one. let it go.

it's obviously a joke to me. When I first saw it the first thing that went through my mind was this is a joke.... Joke or no joke the statute of limitations has passed so why not just drop it?
"Terminated!" :firing: -
8) Why does everyone here hate flexplay so much? If it flies it flies, if it dies it dies. I personally think there may be a niche market for it (at lower price and longer viewing) But hey they paid for the market research.. Its just another string in the bow.
