I'm considering a new DVD +/- writer. Right now I'm thinking about the Sony DRU-510a (becouse of the 8MB buffer) and the Plextor PX-708a (becouse it can write DVD+R in 8x).
But since the Plextor burner isn't out (at least not in Sweden) I haven't found any reviews of it.
I'm therefore wondering, should I wait for the Plextor burner or go for the Sony?

  3. Get the Plextor as it can write 8x to 4x DVD+R media.

That's nice, but when will these 8x DVD+R media be available? Will they not be expensive as well?
For the nth time, with the possible exception of certain Intel processors, I don't have/ever owned anything whose name starts with "i".

  5. They will be expensive, no doubt about it. But like I said above, you can burn 8x using selected 4x +R media.

  7. the plextor doesnt write the whole disc in x8.
it still takes roughly the same time in x8 as it does in x4,and you gotta find 4 speed media that will work.

  8. Most of the 4xDVD+R medias are RICOHJPNR01 like this one:

And since Tompika mentioned the Pioneer A06/106, here's a review of that drive as well:

Just bought the Plextor PX-708A today. Added it to the stable of reliable Sony DRU's. Backed-up full disk in 7:10 using TDK 4x media. This drive flys using the DVD R+ 4 x media, no doubt. I'm impressed so far. I will have to keep it working and make sure the drive will be as reliable as my Sony drives.

  14. Greetings,

No hard feelings. I love my sony. So far made more then 200 Disk and no issue. The only problem is you can not use cheap media with this drive. So far not a single disk has fail and none of them are giving me problem playing on my dvd player-
I do not know or have experience with plaxter- B

tompika: Just heading for bed when I checked my mail. All my systems are shut down except this one, which doesn't have the Plextor. I copied the log however, when DVD Decrypter did it's thing in ISO write mode. I'll run it through Nero also. I have yet to figure out how to post photos etc. on this site. Follow the directions, but I must be doing something wrong. Did however back-up a few other movies tonight with. Average burn time is around 8:10. The drive sort of like shifts gear around 20% into the burn and really gets moving. They have played in everything I have Panasonic S35 and my Sony DVP-NS315. Power DVD, Win DVD all played the disks okay as well. No complaints so far (so good).

  16. No problem tomorrow will be fine.

    DVDInfoPRO has media-, drive-info function,
can save JPEG with quality control (so you can keep the size under 50KB)

    Good night.
